Super Junior's Kim Heechul talked about the reason why he couldn't join the military as a full-time soldier and instead got a position as a public service worker.
Heechul's final episode of 'Radio Star' before entering the military was broadcast on September 14th.
On the show, Heechul talked about the criticism he got about not joining the military as a full-time soldier. He said, “As a member of Super Junior, I often get a lot of criticism for being a bad dancer. However, after it was stated that I didn't qualify to join the military as a full-time army, people said it again."
Heechul continued, “I was involved in a big car accident 4 years ago. My left leg was crushed in the accident and a steel rod had to be inserted into my leg,” and he explains why he can't medically take up his full-time military service.
To explain this further. All healthy and capable Korean men are bound by constitutional duty to serve in the military for 25 months depending on the branch of the military. Those who have medical problems can actually be released or ordered to perform their military duties as a public service (civil service) worker.
